5 Everyday Men's Watches!

5 Everyday Men's Watches!

A reminder: there are no real requirements for an everyday watch besides general durability and comfort. We’re talking about watches that can be dressed up or dressed down. Watches that look as good with a suit as they do alongside a t-shirt and jeans. Lume and water resistance are nice, but not necessary. An everyday wearer can come on a bracelet or strap, as long as it sits comfortably on the wrist. Below is a hand picked selection of some of the watches we have in store, as well as some contrasting styles. While we’re willing to pay good money for a watch we’re going to be wearing every day, we also want it to be a watch that is still an investment, but an affordable one.

GRAND SEIKO Limited Edition 1970 Re-Edition SS 200M Diver’s Watch, #8L35

When the original 1970’s Seiko diver’s watch was created, its designers had only one thought in mind; to build a diver’s watch that delivered the reliability, durability, precision and legibility that serious adventurers required. They had no eye to the future reputation of the watch they were building; their focus was on performance, with form following function in every aspect of their work. The case was given a wide, flowing design purely to protect the crown at the 4 o’clock position. Little did they know that a subsequent version of the watch with this same characteristic case design was destined to develop a worldwide following and earn the affectionate and unforgettable nickname of the “turtle”. Today, this 1970 diver’s watch, the father of the “turtle”, is lovingly re-created in Prospex with a high level of functionality that pays tribute to the determination and skill of the original 1970 team.
The new Prospex re-creation of this 1970 diver’s watch is slightly larger than the original but faithful in every other respect to its design. It is, however, completely up-to-date in its technology. It incorporates caliber 8L35 which was specially designed for use in diver’s watches. The case has a super-hard coating and a dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and is 200 meter water resistant. The upper surface of the bezel rim is Zaratsu polished to a perfect mirror finish. Presented on a high strength silicone strap, this Prospex timepiece is assembled by hand in the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in northern Japan.

Tag Heuer WAY111Z.BA0928 40.5mm Quartz

Edouard Heuer founded his company, Tag Heuer, and started making timepieces in 1860. It was not long before Tag Heuer watches became associated with superior timekeeping and set the standard for precision timepieces. The first Tag Heuer patented was for a keyless, crown-operated winding system for pocket watches. In 1882, Tag Heuer patented the first chronograph models. Tag Heuer invented the ‘oscillating pinion’ for mechanical stopwatches in 1887 and patented it. It is still used to this day by leading manufacturers. After Edouard’s unfortunate death in 1892, his son Jules-Edouard took over his position in the Tag Heuer company. Jules-Edouard got right to work and patented the first water resistant pocket watch cases in 1895. Tag Heuer launched their debut of the new Pulsometer dial in 1908, which is still used today by doctors. Tag Heuer came up with many inventions including: the Auto-Graph model (1948), a wrist chronograph with a tachometer scale and a manual reference hand, the Solunar model (1949), the first watch with a tide indicator, and the Twin-time model (1955), a self-winding wristwatch with a second time zone indicator.

Patek Philippe 18K RG 37mm Model 5196R

Patek Philippe & Company is an exceptional luxury Swiss watch manufacturer that was founded in 1852 by Antoni Patek and Adrien Philippe. It was originated in Geneva, Switzerland. The Patek Philippe brand include some of the most complicated mechanical watches. Antoni Patek was born Piaski, Poland in 1812. At 16 years old, Patek joined the Polish 1st Mounted Rifles Regiment. Patek was promoted to second lieutenant of the 1 August brigade in 1832 and later that year he was given the Virtuti Militari Golden Cross. When the uprising fell apart, many officers of the Polish Army, including Patek, had to relocate. Patek moved around, but finally settled in Switzerland, where he learned his passion for watch making. He started making pocket watches in 1939 with Franciszek Czapek, his Polish partner. Their company, Patek, Czapek and Co, only lasted until 1844 when their partnership deceased. During the next year Patek met Frenchman, Adrien Philippe, and quickly became business partners. Adrien Philippe was born in La Bazoche-Gouet, France, a small town about 50 miles southwest of Paris. He travelled to Switzerland and started his watch making career. He designed a mechanism for watches which allowed them to be wound and set by the crown rather than a key. This patented invention won him the Gold Medal at the French Industrial Exposition of 1844. Antoni Patek was so impressed that within the next year he made Adrien Philippe head watchmaker at Patek & Co. He proved to be valuable at his craft. In 1851 Patek made him a full partner and Patek Philippe & Co was created.  Patek Philippe established the perpetual calendar, split-seconds hang, chronograph, and the minute repeater in watches. Patek Philippe & Company is currently run by their President, Thierry Stern and continues to make some of the most prestigious watches throughout the world.
