The A.Lange & Söhne Brand
Lange was founded during 1845 in Glashütte, Germany by Ferdinand Aldoph Lange. Upon his death this sons renamed the company A. Lange & Söhne and began making quality pocket watches. A. Lange & Söhne continued to be handed down through generations of the Lange family whom began to shift from quality pocket watches to oversized wrist watches for use by the German airmen in World War II. Following the war the A. Lange & Söhne brand ceased to exist, however in 1990 the founder’s great-grandson, Walter Lange worked with several other watch industry executives and Swiss watch manufacturers to restore the A. Lange & Söhne brand. A.Lange & Söhne changed the face of their brand by introducing the oversized date on the dial which has become a defining characteristic of the A.Lange & Söhne design. Following this new design the re-founded A.Lange & Söhne brand presented its first range of wrist watches in 1994 and alongside IWC became a member of the Richemont Group. A.Lange & Söhne has been and continues to be committed to the quest for creating the perfect watch. Each timepiece continues to strive with the intention of improving their functions, enhancing their legibility, and bettering their precision. This is increasingly evident from A.Lange & Söhne’s reputation of developing complicated watches which includes chronographs and split-seconds chronographs, and perpetual calendars. The A.Lange & Söhne movement is unlike most other watches in that it contains mechanical movements with the exception of very few special edition watches. All A. Lange & Söhne movements are made with German silver.
