Tibetan Buddha 1700s Bronze Sculpture Excellent Condition - FREE APR $15k W/ COA!!!

A stunning handmade bronze (featuring maker’s mark) Seated Figure of Bhaisajyaguru or Medicine Buddha, from Tibet. The original Buddha, Sakyamuni Gautama, or Gautama Siddhartha, was born in India in the 5th-6th century B.C.  He was born into a noble family, but left this life to lead the life of a wandering ascetic and thinker. Reflecting on the human condition one night while sitting under a Bodi tree, he awoke to find he had realized nirvana, the state of absolute beatitude, and would not be reborn again.  He spent the rest of his life as a preacher, his teachings contained in a series of documents called the Sutras. The symbolic gestures of the hands of Buddhas and Bodisattvas form a number of different ritualized and stylized poses known as Mudras, which is a spiritual gesture and an energetic seal of authenticity employed in the iconography and spiritual practice of Indian religions. Two hand positions are shown in this classic Buddha sculptural representation. The mudra of the left hand is called “dyana” and represents “perfect balance.” It is indicative of Buddha’s philosophy that one should not lead an overly indulgent life and meditation is the key to enlightenment and liberation. It has been called the mudra of the Buddha. The right hand is a mudra called Bhumisparsa, which means “touching the earth.”  It is a symbol of faith and resolution, and calls humanity to the power of his teachings. Sometimes, the two positions together are called Bhumisparsa. The left hand holds a vessel containing the elixir of life. Drink it and all negative effects will perish. The leg position, called Padmasana, is the leg position associated with meditation. The Buddha is draped in intricately bordered monk’s robes that fall gracefully in life-like folds. And finally, the face is both serene and happy, a state of mind may be a prerequisite to healing and health. It shows wear consistent with dating to the 18th/19th century, and is in very good condition. This piece is evocative of all that Buddhist philosophy has to offer, and would also be a welcome addition to a formal meditation room, collection of Asian antiques, Buddhas, Buddhist objects or statuary related to Buddhism or Buddhist philosophy. The medicine buddha statue is the perfect protector for your health as he wards off disease and illness.
