This is an authentic handwritten and signed letter by famous Ukranian-American entertainer, Sophie Tucker. The letter was written on March 11, 1913 in pencil on stationary from the Hotel Villa Hermosa in Hollywood, Florida. The letter is addressed to Sam Diamond regarding seats for a Jewish Theatrical Guild show on April 5, 1913. This professionally frame piece of memorabilia includes an original sepia toned gelatin silver print of a portrait of the famous entertainer ; the photograph is signed ‘Sincerely, Sophie Tucker” in black ink on the bottom edge.
Sophie Tucker (1886-1966) was a Ukrainian-born American singer, comedian, actress, and radio personality born in a Jewish family. Known for her powerful delivery of comical and risqué songs, she was one of the most popular entertainers in America during the first half of the 20th century. She was widely known by the superlative nickname "The Last of the Red Hot Mamas". By the 1920s, Tucker's success had spread to Europe, and she began a tour of England, performing for King George V and Queen Mary at the London Palladium in 1926. Her hit song "Some of These Days", backed by Ted Lewis and his band, which stayed at the number 1 position of the charts for five weeks beginning November 23, 1926. It sold over one million copies and was awarded a gold disc by the RIAA.
