ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This is a rare and unique piece of music memorabilia consisting of a piece of brick of the legendary Cavern Club located in Mathew St. in Liverpool and a limited edition lithograph. The Sepia Lithograph was made after an original Richard Matthews photograph from the 1950s; this lithograph was printed in 1993 and signed ‘Pete Best’ with black ink on the middle bottom area of the picture, it is also numbered 800/1,500 in pencil by Pete Best next to the piece of brick. In excellent condition this piece is professionally framed with a black frame and comes with a CoA from ArtRock.
The Cavern Club opened on 16 January 1957 as a jazz club, later becoming a centre of the rock and roll scene in Liverpool in the early 1960s. The club became closely associated with the Merseybeat music genre and, famously, regularly played host to The Beatles in their early years. The Cavern Club closed and opened in a new site in March 1973, temporarily closed and reopened since 1984. The Beatles made their first appearance at the club on 9 February 1961 after returning to Liverpool from Hamburg, Germany. From 1961 to 1963 The Beatles made 292 appearances at the club, with their last occurring on 3 August 1963. Pete Best is an English musician known as the Beatles' drummer before the band achieved worldwide fame. After he was dismissed from the group in 1962 and was replaced by Ringo Starr. He is one of several people who have been referred to as the Fifth Beatle.
