KEITH HARING- SIGNED PRINCESS GLORIA BIRTHDAY PLATE- C.1989 - $15K APPRAISAL VALUE!!
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This piece is one of the Villeroy & Boch plates that was designed by Keith Haring (1958-1990) for his friend Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis’ 29th birthday party in 1989. The plates were gifts to guests who attended the birthday party at the Regensburg Palace. Other pieces of the collection include a Haring designed party invitation, a vinyl with a performance by Princess Gloria, and cover art designed by Haring. This piece can be seen in MoMA’s collection at (https://www.moma.org/collection/works/183998).
Each plate was made up of white earthenware with red and black glaze. The outer section of the plate is filled with his stylized moving figures with thick black outlines and signature “K. Haring.” Moving towards the center all plates were inscribed "PRINCESS GLORIA, 15 APRIL 1989.” The plates also contain marks from the German manufacturer, Villeroy & Boch, on the back of the plate. The plates measure 27.2cm., 10 3/4 in. diameter
This specific plate has been personalized by Haring. At the very center, in marker, there is a crawling human figure and a dedication inscribed “FOR STEWART” and Haring’s signature “K. Haring.” This piece is encased in an open black wooden frame against a luxurious velvet backing.
