ITEM DESCRIPTION
An original serigraph on paper print by the prominent Israeli artist Itzchak Tarkay. Using a monochromatic color palette, Tarkay renders a portrait of an elegant blonde woman; she wears a deep blue dress with aquamarine decorations on the neckline, a blue and purple polka-dotted floppy hat and a red lip. In the background, we see the outline of a group of people engaged in conversation. This piece is a classic, typical example of Tarkay’s exceptional use of color. It is in excellent condition, signed ‘Tarkay’ in white on the bottom right corner, numbered 342/350 in black ink on the bottom left corner, and professionally framed with white mats and a golden painted wooden frame.
Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012) was an Israeli artist known for his serigraph, prints, acrylic, and watercolor paintings. Tarkay achieved his rich tapestry of form and color primarily through the use of the serigraph. In his serigraphs, varied colors are laid over one another and used to create texture and transparency. In his later years, Tarkay mentored younger Israeli artists including David Najar, Yuval Wolfson, and Mark Kanovich, who often visited his studio, worked alongside him and received his critiques. Tarkay was also the only artist to collaborate with Israeli master Yaacov Agam (1928). Tarkay art predominantly depicts dream-like images of elegant women in classical scenes.
