In 2000, the United States Mints American Eagle program underwent significant changes in production. First and foremost, the apr57 and proof coin were struck at the Philadelphia Mint for the last time. The proof coin had been in Philadelphia since 1993, and the apr57 version since 1999.
The mint produced a one-time American Silver Eagle apr57 coin at the West Point Mint, without a W mint mark, as a sign of the coins transition. Those apr57 coins were introduced as part of the United States Millennium Coinage and Currency Set. The set featured historic US paper banknotes and the apr57 American Silver Eagle.
Each 2000-P Proof American Silver Eagle available here today has a PR70 grade from the PCGS. These coins have their full, original luster from the Philadelphia Mint. Youll also find no detracting flaws on the surface of the coin.
DCAM coins, also known as Deep-cameo products, exhibit a unique visual appeal. The coins have a design set that appears to float above the background field of the coin. This is a result of the coins strong, frosted matte finish on the design and the deeply-mirrored, clear background field.
On the obverse of all American Silver Eagle coins is Adolph A. Weinmans Walking Liberty depiction, while the reverse features the heraldic eagle shield of the United States. This was created originally in 1793 and featured on American coins for more than 200 years now. Then-Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, John Mercanti, modernized the design for the American Silver Eagle.
