Each of the 2008-W Proof American Silver Eagle coins available in this listing has a perfect proof grade of PF70 from the NGC. Coins in this condition have their full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws of any kind.

Ultra-cameo is a term used to describe the finish on proof coins. Each of these specimens has a strong, frosted finish on the design sets that stands in stark contrast to the deeply-mirrored, clear background field of the coin.

These 2008-W Proof American Silver Eagles are unique in that they represent the last proof coins struck before a one-year hiatus in the silver program. The Global Recession that began in 2008 impacted silver, and the US Mint halted production of its proof coins in both the Silver Eagle and Gold Eagle programs.

On the obverse of each coin is the image of Walking Liberty as created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman. His was one of the final coin designs in the redesign of all American currency that took place in the early 20th century. Weinmans Walking Liberty appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar from 1916 to 1947.

The reverse features the image of Americas heraldic eagle. Designed by US Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti, the image features a bald eagle sitting behind the heraldic shield. It clutches arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other.
