The 2020 Australian Silver Koala offers a new design in the series, with this years design coming from Ing Ing Jong. Employed by the Perth Mint since 2011, Ms. Jongs primary work for the mint each year includes the gold and silver designs in the Lunar Series Collections. She began working on the Lunar Series II coins in 2013 and recently created the Year of the Mouse designs for the 2020 launch of the Lunar Series III collection.

On the reverse of 2020 1 oz Australian Silver Koala Coins is a depiction of the famed marsupial climbing the branch of a tree. Koalas are one of the many marsupial species members that call the Australian continent home, but is the only extant member of its specific family alive today. Its closest relative is the wombat, another marsupial native to the continent. Most koalas are found in the wild in the coastal areas of eastern and southern Australia.

The obverse of 2020 Australian Silver Koala Coins includes the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This is the sixth-generation portrait of the Queen on Australian coins and debuted on certain coins in 2018, with a broader release on Australian apr57 coins in 2019. Designed by Jody Clark, this is the first effigy of Her Majesty since 1966 to include her neckline and shoulders in the image.
