ALEXANDER CALDWELL V. THE US. HANDWRITTEN COURT DOCUMENT MAY 13TH 1873 - $6,000.00 APPRAISAL VALUE WITH CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY!
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This original, one-of-a-kind, handwritten statement on a newsprint paper in black ink, documents the court case between Alexander Caldwell. Alexander Caldwell was born March 1st, 1830, and died May 19th, 1917. He was elected to the Republican Senate and he was a Senator from Kansas from 1871 to 1873 after two years in the Senate, was facing expulsion over bribery and corruption charges along with Samual Pomeroy who also was a Senator from Kansas from 1861 to 1873. It was presumed that he bribed other candidates running against him to drop out of the race leaving a clear win for him. As you see the note that was written in pencil on this letter was George M. Robeson. He was an American Republican politician and lawyer who was later appointed to be Secretary of the Navy under President Ulysses S. Grant. Without the public's knowledge, Robeson was the secretary of the Navy during the case of Alexander Caldwell vs. The United States. The letter, recorded on May 13th, 1873, presumably by a court clerk, outlines the appeal from Caldwell being requested to the Supreme Court.
