Framed Edward Longo 1992 Acrylic On Back Of Matisse Lithograph - $20K APR w/CoA
Presenting a unique and captivating framed abstract acrylic painting by the distinguished artist Edward Longo, dated circa 1992. This piece is humorously painted on the back of an original The Matisse Collection lithograph poster, adding an intriguing layer of history and value. Edward Longo (1933-), a Postwar & Contemporary artist, was born in Waterbury, Connecticut, and spent his youth in Cheshire. In 1951, he joined the Naval Air Force, dedicating four years to service on numerous Naval bases and aircraft carriers as an aviation mechanic. This period of rigorous manual labor played a pivotal role in shaping his future artistic pursuits. Longo's journey into the art world began following his military service, when he developed a keen interest in painting. His formal introduction to art came through a ten-week class sponsored by the Hartford YMCA, where he learned to use paint brushes, palette knives, and the techniques of applying oil paint. This foundational training laid the groundwork for his subsequent artistic career. This particular piece is a stunning example of Longo's abstract style, featuring vibrant and dynamic lily flowers created with bold strokes of acrylic paint. The use of a palette knife adds texture and depth, evoking a sense of movement and energy characteristic of abstract expressionist art. The choice of medium, acrylic paint on the back of a Matisse lithograph poster, showcases Longo's innovative and playful approach to art. This extraordinary artwork is framed, enhancing its visual impact and making it a ready-to-display piece. It not only highlights Longo's skill and creativity but also reflects his unique background and journey into the arts. This piece would make a lovely addition to any space, appealing to both art enthusiasts and collectors with an appreciation for Postwar & Contemporary art.
