GB MAJOR PRINTING ERROR, FULL SHEET ELIZABETH II, MISSING VALUE!
- $100K APPRAISAL VALUE!
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
One full sheet of 100 stamps, Elizabeth II Machin Head undenominated printing error in orange. Produced in 1997, printed on coated paper without phosphor, each measures approximately 0 7/8x1 1/8 inch. This item includes a CoA from Expertises De Timbres Paris, in addition to our own free CoA and an appraisal value of $1,000.00 per unit, for a total of $100,000.00.
A limited supply of these extremely rare stamps was discovered on display at STAMPEX Spring 2017, 20 years after their production, coinciding with the fiftieth anniversary of the introduction of Arnold Machin's iconic portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. We believe these to be of the MH120 22p stamp category. A printing trial occasioned this unique set of stamps as most of its ilke are seen with a price insignia on the bottom left corner.
The undenominated trials were originally produced in sheets of 100 (from larger sheets of 200 guillotined in two) with the Courvoisier imprint along the vertical margins. They exist in three colors: deep green (as used for the 2p), light grey (as used for 29p), and flame (as used for 1st class). Courvoisier has printed the then current Kenya definitives, these being of the same overall size as the Machin definitives. As a consequence, the trials were printed on coated paper without phosphor bands, and have a 15 x 14 perforation.
