This is a vintage piece of memorabilia consisting of an autographed gelatin silver print of Detroit Red Wings’ Gordie Howe and Toronto Maple Leafs’ Johnny Bower in a match of ice hockey against each other, a pair of official Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings enamel pins, and an engraved metal plaque reading “ ‘Mr. Hockey’ vs ‘The China Wall’ Gordie Howe, Johnny Bower 1960 Hockey Action.” This piece is in perfect condition; it is signed ‘Gordie Howe 9’ and ‘Johnny Bower #1’ with a blue ink felt tip pen on the center bottom area of the photograph; it is professionally framed with 3 layered blue, white and marbled mats and a black aluminum frame.
Gordon Howe OC (March 31, 1928 – June 10, 2016) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. From 1946 to 1980, he played twenty-six seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) and six seasons in the World Hockey Association (WHA); his first 25 seasons were spent with the Detroit Red Wings. Nicknamed "Mr. Hockey", a 23-time NHL All-Star, he still holds the NHL records for most games and seasons played. In 2017, Howe was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players". John William Bower (1924 – 2017), nicknamed "The China Wall", was a Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender who won four Stanley Cups during his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In 2017 he was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players" in history.
