Harlem Globetrotters Walter Dukes Payroll Receipt Original Ink Copy - $10K Appraisal Value!


ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Extremely rare, one of a kind, 20th century handwritten receipt! Original payroll record receipt from Harlem Globetrotters basketball team - an American exhibition basketball team. This receipt is written for Walter Dukes who was an amazing American basketball player of the 1950s, and one of the first NBA draft picks to play for the team. The Globetrotter's owner signed him with a $2,000 monthly pay - $24,000 a year - in 1955, which is the equivalent of several million dollars today. This was an original payroll sheet that was to be deposited in his personal account.
Walter Dukes began his basketball career with Seton Hall University and soon was a 1st round NBA pick drafted by the New York Knicks. Declining this offer to sign a 2 year contract with the comedic, promotional talent squad Harlem Globetrotters prior to playing pro, he played for teams such as the NY Knicks, Minneapolis Lakers, and the Detroit Pistons between 1956 and 1963. Dukes was the recipient of hundreds of athletic and humanitarian awards- including the Haggerty Award as the Metropolitan area’s most outstanding player. In 2001 he was inducted into Rochester, New York’s Section V Basketball Hall of Fame, and sports hall of fame of New Jersey in 2002.
