In this warm letter, celebrated British writer Hugh Walpole graciously thanks Waldof Hotel Manager Roy Carruthers for the exceptional hospitality he received the week prior. Walpole is especially grateful noting how overwhelmed he was arriving in New York on at the start of his lecture tour.
It reads as follows:
"The first days of one’s arrival in New York for a long lecture tour are always alarming and difficult. There is always so much to do and so many people to see. When it was first suggested ______ I should go to the Waldorf I was afraid of it ______. I at once found _____. I was more personally and kindly looked after in ______ I would be at like small of modern hotels. It seems to me quite wonderful that in a place of the Waldorf’s age you can make the service so _____ efficient and courteous.
