ITEM DESCRIPTION
An original serigraph created by the prominent and well-collected Israeli artist, Itzchak Tarkay. This unique piece from the artist’s collection was made using ink and watercolor on wove paper and it renders an indoor scene in a café; 3 women sit at a table in the middle of the room chatting while waiting for lunch. In the background, we see a waitress, the bar, and a couple sitting at a table. This piece is in excellent condition, signed ‘Tarkay’ on the bottom right corner in black ink and is professionally framed with a white mat and a gold-painted carved wooden frame.
Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012) was an Israeli artist known for his serigraph, prints, acrylic, and watercolor paintings. Tarkay achieved his rich tapestry of form and color primarily through the use of the serigraph. In his serigraphs, varied colors are laid over one another and used to create texture and transparency. In his later years, Tarkay mentored younger Israeli artists including David Najar, Yuval Wolfson, and Mark Kanovich who often visited his studio, worked alongside him, and received his critiques. Tarkay was also the only artist to collaborate with Israeli master Yaacov Agam (1928). Tarkay art predominantly depicts dream-like images of elegant women in classical scenes.
