Painting portraying two Blue Meenies from the Beatles’ animated movie Yellow Submarine made in 1968. Signed on the front “For John from Jeffery”. Signed on the back “J Beardsall” with black pen on a label. Jeffery Francis Beardsall was born in 1940 in England and was largely influenced by the 1960s growing up. Historically established in the context of the Cold War, the 1960s represent an extremely influential era which engendered a significant number of breaks and questioned the order of all things. He established studios in London and New York City and started to make a name for himself by printing original monotypes for Robert Motherwell and etchings for Salvador Dali. In 1975 he was a recipient of a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship and also was rewarded several prizes and awards in England such as: Print Making Award, Post Graduate Print Making Award and The Samuel Biggin Painting Prize. His works are owned by the Whitney Museum of American Art, Musée d’Art et d’Histoire, the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart.
