An extremely rare, never-before-seen, black and white photograph of famed Heavy Weight Champion, Joe Louis, addressing his commanding officer at an army base. Louis can be seen holding an M1 Garand in full uniform. This photo from the original negative is in excellent condition, and has overlapped typing in the bottom left corner.

Joe Louis is, to this day, considered one of the greatest boxers of all time. He reigned from 1934 - 1951, winning the World Heavyweight Championship in 1937. In January 1942, Louis voluntarily enlisted in the army as a private after a few charity bouts. He is famously quoted as saying: "we'll win, 'cause God's on our side!" which won him the hearts of many fellow Americans in the midst of the war against Germany.
