In Stock: The Unusual Autorist with Rare Self-Winding Lugs
One of the first automatic watches every made, we have at our retail location an Autorist Automatic Wristwatch from circa 1930.
The term "automatic" means that it has a function to wind itself apart from manually using the crown. The lugs on this watch can be moved up and down, a motion which results in the watch winding itself.
This is different from the typical function by which an automatic watch winds, which is by the wearer moving or shaking their wrist.
A drawback of this function is that it may not automatically wind if the wearer doesn't move it in the specific way it needs to be moved, however, the wearer can easily make sure it is wound by moving the strap up and down a few times in the morning or at night.
We purchased this from a collector, who informed us that it was originally invented by the Swiss watch manufacturer Fortis Watches AG, who, according to him, sold the patent to Rolex. According to their website, Fortis was the manufacturer of the world's first automatic wristwatch.
This stunning and rare Autorist watch is guaranteed to turn heads. This was the first “Automatic” watch, meaning that it features a winding automatic mechanism in the lugs at the bottom of the case. The movement of the lugs against the wrist winds the movement of this spectacular watch! This unisex timepiece features a beautiful stainless steel case that measures approximately 23mm (case to crown) x 9mm (high). It has a superb engraved off-white dial with black Arabic numeral hour markers and metallic blue Mercedes style hour and minute hands. This fine watch also has a stainless steel crown and caseback. This Automatic watch is complete with a brown aftermarket Genuine Crocodile style Leather Two-Piece Strap that measures approximately 16.5mm (wide) and can fit up to a 7-inch size wrist. The strap is enclosed by a stainless steel Tang Buckle. This stunning wristwatch is in pristine Like New condition. This incredibly rare timepiece is guaranteed to please any collector!
