Robert Newman is a 2014 Morehouse Graduate, from Little Rock, AR. currently working in NYC as an Assistant Vice President at Neuberger Berman. Newman joined NB as a member of the Financial Planning & Analysis team in 2018, and as of 2020 has transitioned into the role of Equity, Inclusion & Diversity Program Manager for the firm(the first person to ever hold the position). Prior to working at NB, he worked at Morgan Stanley in Financial Reporting.
During his tenure at the Neuberger, Newman has had experience working with every level of management from the executive management team to the board of directors in various capacities. On the FP&A team, he directly supported the CIOs and respective management teams of the Equities and Quantitative Multi-Asset Class businesses. In addition to his daily role Newman chartered and is a current committee leader of the Black Employee Affinity Group (Neuberger Black Experience). One of his notable accomplishments/responsibilities in the role has been co-chairing Black History Month 2019 & 2020.
Outside of the office, he spends a majority of his time working as a freelance Visual Artist, doing exhibitions in galleries across New York City and serving the community through various mentoring and arts based non-profits. In the arts, Newman’s notable features include; Neuberger Berman 80th Anniversary Employee Art Exhibition (featured artist and lead curator), JPMC Bold Celebration of Black Art (featured artist), and the Museum @ FIT “Black in Time” (featured artist).
In the community, Newman is known for his work as the Co-Founder of Words on Whites Movement, an arts & advocacy initiative; and Silent Renaissance, an organization dedicated to bringing people together and promoting black art. Newman was a member of the founding board of the Broadway Advocacy Coalition and is currently an Associate Board Member of ABroaderWay Foundation.
As of 2020, Newman was appointed as the President of the Morehouse NYC Alumni Association after serving the board as the Director of Programming & Social Engagement since 2018. In his role as president, he is responsible for carrying out the organization's goals of helping NYC area alumni connect with the school, each other, and the broader NYC community.
Newman's mentoring track record dates back to 2009, where he began as a high school mentor in Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. During undergrad, Newman held several leadership positions with the on-campus mentoring organization The Talented Tenth Program. After arriving in NYC he joined iMentor and served as a mentor at the Bronx Academy of Science & Engineering from 2014 - 2018. Today, he is a proud mentor in the inaugural class of the Make A Play Foundation mentoring cohort.
