MOBO BRONCO 1940s Pressed Steel Riding Horse and Stand - $8K Appraisal Value!

The Mobo Bronco pressed-steel toy ride-horse was first made in Kent, England, around 1947 by D. Sebel & Sons. The firm continued production until 1971, being forced out of business by cheaper toys made in Asia. The Mobo Bronco is made of pressed steel, and it works by the rider sitting on the horse and pushing down on the stirrups then releasing them. The unique design of the horse allows it to move across the floor by a spring mechanism concealed inside the body of the horse. This specific horse has been mounted on a white painted steel stand with a 33’’ diameter round base. It is in overall very good condition still keeping most of its original painting and having scratches. The horse has a faded Mobo logo on the chest. The horse has been modified to be used as a barber shop seat for children and it weights approximately 100 lb.

Sebel's began as a metal working firm in the 1920's making wheels, carts, architectural items, tank parts, etc. After the 2nd World War, they were inspired to make the MOBO Bronco, a toy horse that moved along on wheels when the pedals were pushed down and released. In the 1950's came the steerable version by pushing down on one pedal, the horse turned in that direction.
