Here we have an original signed letter from Fiorello Henry La Guardia (1882-1947), the esteemed American attorney and politician and 99th Mayor of New York City from 1934 to 1946, renowned for his irascible, energetic, and charismatic personality, as well as his diminutive, rotund stature. Dated May 1941, this letter is particularly significant as it was written during the buildup to American involvement in World War II.

During this critical period, President Roosevelt appointed La Guardia as the first director of the new Office of Civilian Defense (OCD), underscoring his pivotal role in the nation's war effort.
