ITEM DESCRIPTION
This is an authentic black and white lithograph commemorating the New York Mets game vs the Pittsburg Pirates, the one where they win their first game in franchise history. The print was signed by 19 members of the original 1962 roster including: Joe Pignatano, Al Jackson, Don Zimmer (d. 2014), Sammy Drake (d. 2010), Ray Daviault, Ken Mackenzie, Ed Kranepool, Sammy Taylor, Craig Anderson, Sherman Jones (d. 2007), Joe Christopher, Roger Craig, Hobie Landrith, Jay Hook, Bob Miller, Cliff Cook, Frank Thomas, Ed Bouchee (d. 2013), and Larry Foss. (13) players have added 62 Met inscriptions, Craig has added a first pitcher inscription, Landrith a 1st Met pick inscription, and Hook a 1st Mets Win inscription with a blue ink felt tip pen. This item is in excellent condition and is professionally framed with blue and orange mats in a black laminated wooden frame. And comes with an official hologram certification from MLB.
In 1962, the New York Mets picked up their first win against an undefeated Pittsburgh Pirates squad on their home turf. It took the team until April 23rd to finally win a game. The 1962 New York Mets season was the first regular season for the Mets, as the National League returned to New York City for the first time since 1957. They went 40–120 (.250) and finished tenth and last in the National League. Despite the team's terrible performance, fans came out in droves. Their season attendance of 922,530 was good enough for 6th in the National League that year.
