ITEM DESCRIPTION:

One original typed-up and dictated letter from the former Attorney General of the United States, George W. Wickersham. It is signed by him and addressed to Reverend Anthony Parshley, who requested that he speak at his special men's club of the local congregational churches of Lancaster, New Hampshire in March 1924. The purpose of the meeting was, Parshley quoted, "Accomplishing things which no one club can do." Canon Anthony R. Parshley, the next rector of St. Michael’s, was remarkably socially and politically active, and served from 1929-1947. He championed the enfranchisement of women in the congregation and the expansion of programs for youth. During World War II, He presided at many community, fraternal, military, and ecumenical services. He also wrote monthly letters to service men and women, worked in a local factory, and organized the relief committee, which sent support to the original St. Michael’s church in Bristol, U.K. In 1947, he resigned to become Archdeacon of the Rhode Island Diocese. He was invited to this unique event just over 10 years after serving under President William Howard Taft. The original letterhead reads 40 Wall Street, New York, and comes with the original stamp and address envelope. A special significant piece of history from a very early, well-known, and prominent Attorney General. Guaranteed genuine in every respect.
