Presenting an extraordinary and scarce handwritten poem penned by Ruth Donnelly (May 17, 1896 – November 17, 1982), a luminary of American film and stage renowned for her exuberant portrayals and comedic finesse. I really no longer belong

The world is so filled with such muck and goo

Everything you buy stuck together with glue

That cheap costume jewelry those rhinestones

What litter

It’s all just a tinseled mess

Of just glitter

You can’t wear your real pearls

Or your large diamond ring.

Less you meet with a mugger

On leave from sing sing

Over that rock and roll music

If music it be.

Well it sounds more like an

Indians War-Whoop to me.

Our tunes were so catchy

And Jazz had a swing hit

Today it’s just noise


And the crooners that sing?

(Ha Ha Ha Ha - Ha)

The _ has gotten the hook

In my day and age

It took wise and talent to then

Be the rage

And those mad, naked _ that streak through

The air

They’ll all get a hernia unless

They take care

Respect and good manners they

Taught us and charm

To help me _ and never

Do harm

Oh I hope that the young ones will

Keep on the team?

Things are never as bad they’ll

Find as they seem

We all have to struggle to learn

What is right

But once that you’ve found it you’ve

Won the good fight

I better shut up on ___

Like a teacher

Or one of those hags/bags who thinks


She a preacher

So now I’ll sign off and

Turn back the pages

Dream once again of that
