ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This is a pair of authentic 1940s programs for two different orchestral concerts at the world famous Royal Albert Hall in London. One of the programs dates from November 14th, 1943 and is a program for a Harold Holt Sunday Concert with the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dr. Malcolm Sargent and with Austra Bourne as soloist; this program is signed ‘Austra Bourne’ and ‘Malcolm Sargent’ in black ink on the left edge of the back page. The other program dates form October 1st, 1944 and is a program for an Orchestral Concert with the London Philarmonic Orchestra conducted by Dr. Adrian Boult and with Yehudi Menuhin as soloist; this program is signed ‘Yehudi Menuhin ’ in black ink on the center of the front page. This piece is in perfect condition, framed over an off-white background in an aluminum frame.
Yehudi Menuhin, Baron Menuhin, OM KBE (1916-1999) was an American-born violinist and conductor, he is widely considered one of the great violinists of the 20th century. He played the Soil Stradivarius, considered one of the finest violins made by Italian luthier Antonio Stradivari. Austra Bourne was an Australian Soprano from Melbourne; and Sir Harold Malcolm Watts Sargent (1895-1967) was an English conductor, organist and composer widely regarded as Britain's leading conductor of choral works. He was co-founder of the London Philharmonic, was the first conductor of the Liverpool Philharmonic as a full-time ensemble, and played an important part in saving the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from disbandment in the 1960s.
