1940 HANAHIAH HARARI "STILL LIFE" ORIGINAL OIL ON CANVAS - $20K APR W/ COA!
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This is a gorgeous 20th century circa 1900s still life painting by the famous American artist Hanahiah Harari (1912-2000). It was painted with visible strokes instead of crisp lines, typical of the Modernism period.
Harari was a native New Yorker who belonged to the international Modernist Art movement in the 1930s. He was also a founding member of the American Abstract Artists group. However, Harari’s work maintained a strong connection to realism with the majority of his work being only semi-abstract. Harari's career was stifled in the 1960s, when blacklisted by businesses from illustrating for them, as he had contributed political cartoons to the leftist magazine, The Masses, in the 1950s. Before his death in 2000, he had several retrospectives around New England and New York in the 1990s. This particular painting was given as a gift from the artist as a wedding present in the 1940s and was kept in the family until it was sold in 2012.
