Brendan Cass

Brendan Cass —Photographer/Director Chris Sanders

Brendan Cass finds inspiration all around—from postcards collected during his travels to memories from his childhood in New Jersey. His vibrant, expansive landscapes are distinctly his own. A graduate from the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts and the School of Visual Art in New York, Cass’s works have garnered global recognition, exhibited at prestigious galleries such as Velge and Noirhomme in Brussels and the Stellan Holm Gallery in New York.

His expressionist landscapes, drawing influence from art movements ranging from pop-art to Chinese watercolor, are dreamy and unbridled, transforming cityscapes into fantastical realms alive with energy. Taking inspiration from old travel brochures, Cass incorporates visual elements that evoke the feeling of receiving a postcard, incorporating his own person experience in the landscape he depicts. Cass refuses to confine himself as a “careful artist,” embracing the freedom for his mediums to move without restriction. His most acclaimed pieces, large-scale landscapes characterized by bold, gestural strokes are reminiscent of Action Painting, and reside in numerous permanent collections, including those at the Kemper Museum of Kansas City and the Denver Museum of Art.

Currently, Cass divides his time between studios in New York and Naples, Florida, continuing to captivate audiences with his exuberant interpretations of the natural world.
