The first use of Britannia on precious metals in Britain came during the unification of the crowns of England and Scotland. As the new United Kingdom took shape, Britannia was chosen as a symbol of that unified power on coins issued by the Royal Mint following the unification of the two crowns.

On the obverse of the 100 oz British Silver Britannia Bars is a design of Britannia that is all-new, but inspired by classical art design concepts. Her figure is captured in right-profile relief with a large Corinthian helmet on her head. She holds a trident in her left hand to wield control over the seas and holds a shield with the British flag on it in her right hand to defend against invaders.

The reverse face of 100 oz Britannia Silver Bars includes the Royal Mint of England seal. The seal is followed by engravings of the weight, purity, and metal content of the bar. At the very bottom are rolling waves of the sea reflective of the seafaring history of the nation.
