This historical photo 20th century circa 1927. features Charles Lindbergh, Alfred Smith, Grover Whalen, Jimmy Walker, and Charles Evans Hughes. Lindbergh, Smith, Walker, and Hughes are sitting together in the middle of the photo in with carbon microphones of the 1920s in front of each of them. The written names, in pen, underneath the photo show where they are seated.
This dinner was to celebrate Colonel Charles Lindbergh's achievement of being the first to fly a monoplane, the Spirit of Saint Louis, non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean in 1927. The flight was from New York to Paris and took 33 hours, 29 minutes, and 30 seconds. The dinner was held on the evening of Wednesday, September 14th, 1927 at the Multnomah Hotel in Portland, Oregon. He went to 69 celebration dinners all over the world and only one other dinner photo, from 1928, can be found.
Arrives Le Bourget Aerodrome, Paris after 33 hours, 29 minutes, and 30 seconds. Lindbergh lands at Paris' Le Bourget airfield, becoming the first pilot to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.The painting measures approximately 14 1/2" inches (wide) x 6" inches (high).
