The reverse of 2018 American Silver Eagles bears the heraldic eagle of the United States. Originally designed in 1794, this particular design was refined and modernized by John Mercanti in 1986 for use on the Silver Eagle. It depicts the bald eagle behind the nations heraldic shield as it clutches arrows and an olive branch.
All Proof American Silver Eagle coins are produced by the United States Mint at its West Point Mint location. This is denoted by the W mint mark on the reverse side of the coin below the heraldic eagle.
